Edward Quince's Wisdom Bites: Keeping With Year End Traditions

"There are two things to aim at in life: first, to get what you want; and after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second."

  1. This quote put me in mind of the book "The 5 Types of Wealth: A Transformative Guide to Design Your Dream Life" by Sahil Bloom.

Although the book completely misses the essential dimension of Faith/Spirituality altogether, it does a good job of zooming out from the myopic perspective of Financial being the sole type of wealth and adds the four additional dimensions of Time, Social (Relational), Mental and Physical to reframe planning and living a wealthy or "rich" life, and thus how to both "get what you want" and "enjoy it".

    1. Have not read that yet, but that book was recently mentioned on Oaktree's 2025 reading list https://www.oaktreecapital.com/insights/insight-commentary/education/2025-year-end-book-recommendations

Unrelated, I always liked Bloom's quote: “Every single thing you want in life is on the other side of something that sucks. That suck might be 100 hard workouts, 100 bland meals, 100 hours of focused work, or 100 hard conversations. Embrace it as the cost of entry.”
